Les Paul: inventor, tinkerer, engineer, and musician.
Nobody else has done more to shape the sound of modern popular music than Les Paul. Inventor of the solid body electric guitar, multitrack recording, and the tape delay. He was also a talented musician and all-around fine human. We’ve lost a good man.

These night shots show my friend Eddie Adams playing with an illuminated parasol. This was at a fabulous campout with a bunch of friends this last weekend.
The parasol was made by Michael Ang. Eddie has her own blog.

This is the first post in what will be an intermittent, but ongoing series called “The Hall of Awesome.” I plan to use this space to honor people and things which I think are particularly excellent.

Last Thursday (August 7) the light in the evening was just incredible. This shot is taken out my window driving on The Embarcadero. The Ferry Building is visible on the left in front of the Bay Bridge.

Via Boing Boing Gadgets, these are LED spray cans by the French artist Aissa Logerot, a project he calls Halo.

I have a Craigslist RSS feed that searches Bay Area job listings for anything that matches “embedded linux.” I’ve been watching the feed for about three years now, and its been interesting. I originally created the feed to watch for jobs I might be interested in applying for. In this respect it has been a [...]

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I have some opinions about robotic space exploration. Namely, I believe we should be pursuing a vigorous program of robotic space exploration, leaving human space flight to the future when we’re better at launching stuff into space.
I’m pleased to report that a panel convened to [...]
